It’s simple to be a fan of Maisie Williams . Not just is the 20-year-old English starlet an unstoppable force as Arya Stark on Game of Thrones, she’s an outspoken advocate of gender equality and a burst of sunlight in interviews and funny bits, particularly when hanging out with her co-star and buddy Sophie Turner.

Yet Williams revealed concerns to the Irish Times today that her look may hold her back from some more popular functions in Hollywood.

“ It ’ s just now I ’ m beginning to recognize the characters that are offered to me due to the fact that of the method I look and the characters that aren’ t readily available to me, ” she states. “ It ’ s a really shallow market. And I put on’ t appear like somebody who is cast in functions that are, well, sexualized.”

In addition to shooting Game of Thrones season 8 , Williams just recently starred as the voice of Goona in the cartoon animation Early Man and will play a terminally ill teenager in the bucket-list movie Departures due out this year. She likewise signed up with Turner in the X-Men universe capturing a function as Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane) in 2019’s edgy The New Mutants motion picture.

But while Williams has actually had no difficulty landing functions suitable for a teenager, it appears she’s discovering restrictions as she develops into a grownup.

“Don’ t get me incorrect.I ’ m totally in wonder of Hollywood’ s leading women, “Williams stated.”I enjoy taking a look at those completely jaw-droppingly lovely ladies. I believe it’ s unfortunate that you just get to see one type of lovely on screen. ”

While Hollywood might still struggle with established appeal requirements and unequal treatment of females, we’re seeing indications of modification. More ladies are requiring equivalent pay and calling out casting directors who slam their weight when it has absolutely nothing to do with their characters. With strong ladies like Williams blazing a trail, we might see more than “one kind of lovely” on screen regularly– and the earlier, the much better.
