Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup, 150ml

What is Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup?

Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup is a medicine which is used to help provide nighttime relief of dry, irritating coughs and aid a restful sleep. The liquid contains diphenhydramine hydrochloride which is an antihistamine that helps relieve coughing and dry secretions in the nose and chest, dextromethorphan hydrobromide which is an antitussive to help stop coughing and levomenthol which helps you breathe
more easily by relieving congestion.

The medicine is for use in adults and children aged 12 years and over.

Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup is a treatment that works to reduce the effects of a dry cough and help with sleep loss that occurs as a result of a cough. The medicine contains three active ingredients that help to achieve this:

  • Diphenhydramine
  • Dextromethorphan
  • Levomenthol

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that works to reduce coughing and clear mucus in the throat and chest. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that will reduce the severity of cough and levomenthol is a decongestant that will help by making it easier to breathe.

What is A Dry Cough?

A dry cough is also known as non-productive cough, or tickly cough as there is no phlegm. A dry cough can be very irritating and typical triggers can include dust, foreign bodies or an infection that causes inflammation in your upper respiratory tract (airways). On occasion even some medicines can cause dry coughs, if this happens please speak with your Doctor.

How can a cough cause sleep deprivation?

Sleep loss can be caused when having a cough because it is easier for irritants that cause the cause to make their way up the throat. This will make a cough worse, making getting some much-needed sleep more difficult. A remedy for this is to incline your head by using some extra pillows. This will allow for fewer irritants in the throat. Though it won’t stop a cough completely.
