Clenil Modulite Beclomethasone 250mcg Inhaler, 200 Doses

What Clenil Modulite Beclomethasone 250mcg Inhaler is and what it is used for?

Clenil Beclomethasone 250mcg Inhaler pressurised inhalation solution is used to help prevent the symptoms of mild, moderate, or severe asthma.

The active ingredient, beclometasone dipropionate, is one of a group of medicines called corticosteroids which are often referred to simply as steroids.

Steroids have an anti-inflammatory action reducing the swelling and irritation in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs, and so ease breathing problems.

Clenil Modulite inhaler is a preventer inhaler taken daily to reduce the symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Its active ingredient is Beclometasone.

Asthma is a chronic condition which causes inflammation within the airways. Asthmatic symptoms can be exacerbated by several triggers including pollen, dust, animal dander, weather, exercise, stress and laughter, though these are not the cause of the condition.

For those with severe asthma, whose symptoms persist most of the time, a preventer inhaler, such as Clenil Modulite, can be prescribed to provide long-term effective relief from their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

The active ingredient in Clenil Modulite inhalers is beclometasone.

Beclometasone is a corticosteroid (steroid) which reduces the inflammation of the airways.

When an allergen, such as dust or pollen, is inhaled by someone with asthma, their body initiates an immune response. Cells within the lungs release chemicals which causes inflammation. This inflammation makes it difficult to breathe and increases the chances of airways becoming blocked by mucus.

The active ingredient of Clenil Modulite (beclometasone) blocks the cells from releasing these chemicals, thus preventing the airways from becoming inflamed.

It’s important to understand that while Beclometasone can prevent inflammation of the airways, it is not effective at treating inflammation during an asthma attack.

How long does it take for Clenil Modulite to work?

You may not notice an improvement to your breathing until up to a week after starting treatment.

Your GP or asthma nurse may suggest arranging regular appointments to track your treatment progress. You may be asked to use a peak flow meter. This is a device which you blow into to determine how efficiently you can breathe. You may have to track your readings in a diary, which will be reviewed by a healthcare professional during an appointment.

Always take Clenil Modulite as prescribed by the doctor.

Do not alter your dosage or frequency of dosage without discussing with your doctor first. Stopping treatment, even if you feel better, can worsen your symptoms and cause an asthmatic flare-up. Always consult your GP before using any new medicines.

Clenil Modulite is a CFC-free inhaler which is administered orally.

If your inhaler is new, or if you haven’t used your Clenil Modulite inhaler for 3 days or more, you should release one puff into the air to make sure it works before taking a dose.

To take a dose of Clenil Modulite:

  1. Start by standing or sitting in an upright position. This posture will help the medicine to reach your lungs more effectively.
  2. Remove the cap from the inhaler.
  3. Shake your inhaler before each dose. While shaking, listen for a swishing noise coming from the canister as this will indicate whether there is medicine inside it. If you cannot hear a swishing, your canister may be empty.
  4. Holding the inhaler away from you, breathe out until you feel you need to breathe in.
  5. Place the mouthpiece of the inhaler between your teeth and close your mouth around it. Ensure your lips provide an airtight seal around the mouthpiece. Don’t bite down on the mouthpiece of the inhaler
  6. Depress the canister of the inhaler while breathing in deeply and quickly. Timing is important – you must breathe in at precisely the same time as you press the canister. If you do not breathe in, or if you inhale too late, the dose you receive may be ineffective.
  7. Hold your breath for 10 seconds (or for as long as is comfortable for you) before exhaling.
  8. After using your inhaler, rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth. This will remove any particles of the medicine left in your mouth.
  9. Replace the cap and store the medicine.

When using Clenil Modulite inhalers to treat asthma, the technique is important. Speak to your GP or asthma nurse if you are unsure whether your technique is right.

What should I do if I forget to take Clenil Modulite?

If you forget to use your Clenil Modulite inhaler when you should, take it as soon as you remember and continue to use your Clenil Modulite inhaler as you normally would. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and use your Clenil Modulite inhaler at the next usual time.

Do not take more Clenil Modulite to make up for the missed dose.

What should I do if not medicine is coming out?

There may be several reassons your inhaler may not work.

  • Your canister is empty (there is no medicine left)
  • Your inhaler is blocked
  • The canister is incorrectly inserted

To check whether there is medicine in the canister, remove it from the plastic housing and shake the canister gently. You should hear a fluid swishing around inside the metal canister. If you cannot hear it, or if the sound is very faint even when shaking vigorously, your canister is likely empty and will need to be replaced.

To clean your inhaler, remove the metal canister from your inhaler by pulling it straight upwards. Holding the plastic canister upright under a running tap, run some cold water through the inhaler. Once you have cleaned it, leave it to dry. Avoid drying your inhaler with a paper towel as this may introduce unwanted particles which may cause another blockage or result in inhalation of unwanted particles, which may worsen your asthmatic symptoms.

When replacing the canister, make sure the nozzle of the canister is inserted into the small plastic hole at the base of the inhaler. After reinserting the canister, test it by releasing a puff into the air.

If you need to use your inhaler while it is drying, shake the inhaler dry and use it as you normally would.

If you have followed the above steps and the medicine is still not coming out, consult your doctor.
